SAN Launches Youth HIV Prevention Project
SAN launched its “Youth HIV Prevention Project” on Wednesday, January 13th which pays area youth, ages 14-24, to come up with innovative projects, programs, events, and campaigns to help prevent the spread of HIV and AIDS at their schools, clubs, and other organizations. Youth will be provided with a budget of $100 to carry out their projects which must be documented. After the successful completion of their HIV prevention project, the youth will receive a check for $150. The documented projects will then be compiled and sent to the CDC for possible use in other areas across the country as well as presented to the Washington Regional HIV Planning Group for use by other AIDS organizations across the state.
“This is a terrific opportunity for us to hopefully glean some new ideas from some amazing young people in the difficult battle against HIV and AIDS,” said SAN’s Executive Director, Katie Coker. “It’s also a great opportunity for area youth to provide a valuable service to their peers while getting paid to do so.”
Youth 14-24 are welcome to participate. In most cases one project per school, university/college, or youth organization will be chosen. Project proposals can be obtained by contacting the Spokane AIDS Network via e-mail at Ryano@SAN-NW.org . Project proposals must be returned to SAN by no later than March 15th, and the chosen proposals will be notified by March 28th. This program is sponsored by the Spokane AIDS Network through a generous grant from the Pride Foundation.
